Stutter Edit 2 by iZotope — Reviewed

Stutter Edit 2 is an incredible new VST plugin from iZotope. It enables you to create the famous “stutter” editing effect. Different effects can be triggered simply by pressing another key on your midi controller. Therefore, you can easily trigger different midi effects in different areas of your mix. You can also change any preset, create your own preset or do absolutely anything you need to do in order to make your track sound great. Stutter Edit 2 also allows you to dive deeper with new banks full of pre-made presets soaring gestures, glitched-out breakdowns, and beyond.

Stutter Edit 2 Has One-Button Access

The AUTO function, which is new to Stutter Edit 2 allows you to audition any sound on the fly. You can mess around and do absolutely anything you want to do. However, the presets and changes you make are easily saved.

Is Stutter Edit 2 Easy to Use?

Stutter Edit 2 may take a couple of minutes to get your head around. However, on the whole it is easy to use and is worth your time and money. I managed to create a whole track with just one sample. I have added it below…

Although it may take a moment to get used to Stutter Edit 2, you should be able to achieve similar results to this track.

Stutter Edit 2 Provides Movement in the Mix

There is an upgraded distortion module, new comb, chorus, and limiter effects, as well as a new reverb unit and the initial 11 effects that were so prominent on the plugin’s predecessor. It is capable of creating everything from lo-fi ear-candy to realistic tape stops as you will hear at the end of the above track. Every knob and slider in Stutter Edit 2 is movable each time you hit a different key on your MIDI controller or keyboard. This moves in time with your session using the new Curve Editor. This lets you draw in the motion of your effects without needing to use your DAW’s automation. Choose your range with the blue sliders, pick a premade curve (or draw your own), and play back to hear your creation.

You Can Also Create Stutters, Breaks, and Cuts

Put Stutter Edit 2 on your tracks to fire off rhythmic gestures, sweeping filters, glitchy effects, or everything at once. Access dozens of unique gestures through custom banks, each with their own rhythmic flavour ready-made to deliver inspiration fast.

Create new sounds by simply chopping up your samples to the beat, or just shred them into pitched, synth oblivion with the Stutter and Buffer controls. Get simple. Go deep. Try different gestures, and create your own from scratch.

Features

  • The whole point of Stutter Edit 2 is so you can create instant rhythmic patterns out of any sound. This can be any element of your mix. This could include the percussion, the vocals, or the melody.
  • Create sidechain effects with ease that you can mould to suit your requirements much more effectively.
  • You can also make gated synths that are suitable for a wide range of electronic dance music subgenres.
  • Audition sounds in your mix with ease.
  • You can also hook up a MIDI controller with step-by-step in-app help that detects what DAW you’re in. This applies to any of the big-name DAWs. Personally, I use FL Studio, but you can use any DAW you like.
  • Another great aspect of Stutter Edit 2 is the ability to make sweeping filters, pumping reverbs, and blends of lo-fi energy. You can also drill into any setting to edit the curve in detail. Alternatively, you can choose from 12 premade curves for instant inspiration.
  • There are also plenty of effects modules. These enable you to get creative with deeper controls and more options for motion and chaos. Stutter Edit 2 adds new comb and chorus modules, along with a full-featured reverb and two-band distort module.
  • All of the banks and gestures are designed by BT. Therefore, they deliver a wealth of effects, ideas, and sounds to your mix. It is perfectly possible to auto-save created presets. Therefore, each key on your midi controller can trigger a separate preset.
  • Factory presets are automatically auto-mapped to each key on your midi controller.
  • UI experience also offers a logical workflow, with a new dedicated output section, easier Stutter controls, and a flexible system for saving banks and gestures.
