Road Less Traveled is the name of a song by Alex Genadinik and also a completely different song by Lauren Alaina. In this post, I am going to compare both songs and say what is good and bad about both songs. I am not going to say which song I prefer, but leave it to you to decide what you think. If you have a premium account on Medium, it would be good to hear your thoughts at the end of the post.

The Music Videos

Firstly, here is Lauren’s version of Road Less Traveled…

And then let us see Alex’s version…

What is Good About Lauren’s version?

There are various things I like about Lauren’s versions. These include…

  • Lauren has a really important message about accepting yourself
  • The song is dynamic and explosive
  • It looks like Lauren had fun when she made it.
  • The lyrics are clever
  • Maybe this would be more popular with teenagers.
  • I like all the different colours coming off the drums that are being beaten

What I Liked About Alex’s Version

Here is what was good about Alex’s version…

  • Alex’s version sounds more serious
  • Alex plays the guitar and sings at the same time. Lauren only sings her song.
  • Alex uses some more interesting visual props
  • I like the part around 2 minutes where the heaviness changes. This is an interesting and contrasting difference to the rest of the song.
  • I think a woman would find Alex’s voice more attractive.
  • Alex is a skilled guitarist. He plays fingerstyle and gets a very good tone from the guitar.

What I Didn’t Like About Lauren’s version…

  • Sometimes the lyrics are unclear
  • I think Lauren could have used more visuals. She sings about kicking off boots and riding into\ battle. Maybe we could see a cowgirl or a cowboy riding a horse into battle.

What I Didn’t Like About Alex’s version…

Finally, the things I didn’t like about Alex’s version included…

  • It is not that I didn’t like it, but Lauren has the better singing voice
  • The acoustics are audible in some areas of the song. Maybe this is purposeful.

Conclusion

Which version did you like best? I am not going to judge which version I preferred because I want you to come to your own conclusions. However, I hope you enjoyed both versions.
